EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (6-7, 0-4 CUSA) will look to send out Carlotta Mencaglia in style when it locks up with Sam Houston (5-8, 0-4 CUSA) on "Senior Day" at 11 a.m. at the El Paso Tennis Club Sunday. Admission is free of charge.
 
"It's hard to believe that this our last home match of the season," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We are really honored to be recognizing our amazing senior, Carlotta Mencaglia. Her energy and effort during her time here has been second to none. She has been an invaluable part of this program and has been a pleasure to coach. We know Sam Houston will be a very difficult opponent, but we are ready to defend our home court on 'Senior Day.'"
 
Mencaglia has been a fixture at or near top of the line-up in both singles and doubles since her arrival in the Sun City for the start of the 2022 dual campaign. She has amassed more than 100 combined victories in that timeframe, including piling up 20 in doubles alone last year. The effort let Hanna Telzynska and her become the first Miner duo to earn all-conference honors since 2001. She has also been tabbed the CUSA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week twice, which ties for the most by a Miner since UTEP joined the league in 2005. Mencaglia's leadership has been vital this season, particularly with her stout 7-2 mark at No. 1 singles.
 
UTEP has amassed six triumphs in 2025, including posting consecutive road wins against DI opposition for the first time in nine years. She has registered a mark of 13-10 overall this season, rating second on the squad. Mencaglia is also topping the team in doubles victories, with the majority of those coming while playing with Telzynska.
 
The Orange and Blue will be vying for their fifth consecutive victory on "Senior Day."
