UTEP Women’s Golf Wraps Up Play at The Red Raider Invitational

LUBBOCK, Texas – The UTEP women's golf team wrapped up play at The Red Raider Invitational hosted by Texas Tech at The Rawls Course (par 72 | 6,815 yards), on Wednesday. The Miners posted a team total of 928 (306-301-321) to place 13th overall.

Luciana Origel led the way for UTEP, carding rounds of (77-72-82—231, +15) to finish tied for 39th overall. She tallied four birdies across the tournament. Origel has now been the top UTEP finisher seven times in her career.

Atikan Cherdchoo (81-77-77) and Blanca Yrizar (76-76-83) shared the second-best spot for the Miners with the score of 235, tying for 54th overall.

Paige Wood followed with a (78-79-79—236), finishing 60th in the tournament.

Nichapas Thawinwan closed out the lineup, tying for 62nd overall with scores of (75-76-86—237). That score was highlighted by five birdies.

Competing as an individual, Amelia Fridlund also finished tied for 62nd with rounds of (80-77-80—237).

Tournament host, Texas Tech (292-289-295—876) claimed the team title, with Houston Christian (295-288-305—888) finishing second. UTSA and ACU tied for third with matching totals of 890.

Texas Tech's Lauren Zaretsky took home the individual title, posting a 3-under par 213 (74-71-68). Natcha Makmanee (Houston Christian) placed second with a 2-under par 214 (74-71-69). UTSA's Lauren Rios (71-70-74) (-1) and Sam Houston's Francesca Sumcad (70-74-71) (-1) both shared third place with a score of 215.

The Orange and Blue will be back on the course Oct 13-15 at the Golf Iconic Classic in Las Cruces, N.M., hosted by NM State.
