Four Miners Earn Academic All-District® Honors

GREENWOOD, Indiana - UTEP Softball's Marissa Burchard, Halle Hogan, Brantley Lavas, and Iliana Munoz have been named to the 2026 College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District® Softball Team, announced by the organization Tuesday.  
  
To qualify for the honor, student-athletes must hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50, be at least a sophomore academically and have completed one full calendar year at their current institution. Eligible nominees must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played or start in at least 66 percent of games. Pitchers must have made at least 17 appearances or pitched 35 innings. 
  
The 2025-26 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom.    

Burchard, a sophomore business major, earned her first Academic All-District® honor after starting all 49 games for the Miners in 2026. A two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist and two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, the shortstop ranked second on the team with a .284 batting average while leading the squad in runs scored, hits, doubles, triples, total bases and stolen bases. She also ranked second on the team in home runs, RBI, putouts at shortstop and double plays turned. 

Hogan, a senior kinesiology major, collected her second consecutive Academic All-District® recognition. A three-time Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist and three-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, the right fielder played in 47 games with 43 starts and led the Miners in sacrifice flies. Hogan also ranked second on the team in RBI, third in walks and posted a perfect fielding percentage during the season. 

Lavas, a sophomore majoring in multidisciplinary studies, secured her first Academic All-District® honor. A two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist and two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, she started 48 games for UTEP and finished second on the team in walks and putouts in center field while ranking third in runs scored. 

Munoz, a senior multidisciplinary studies major, earned Academic All-District® accolades for the second straight season. A two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medalist and two-time Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll selection, she appeared in all 49 games with 44 starts and paced the Miners with a .310 batting average. Defensively, Munoz led the team in putouts at first base and double plays turned. Offensively, she ranked second on the squad in hits, doubles, home runs, RBI and total bases.
