UTEP Cross Country Opens 2026 at NM State’s Art Morgan Classic Saturday Morning

EL PASO – UTEP will begin the 2026 campaign at NM State's Art Morgan Classic on Saturday, Sept. 5, in Las Cruces. The meet will be held at the NM State Golf Course with the women's 5K starting at 7:30 a.m., while the gun goes off for the men's 5K at 8 a.m. 
 
"Opening the cross country season is always exciting because it gives us our first opportunity to compete and see where we are as a program," UTEP head coach Francesca Green said. "I'm proud of the work our student-athletes have put in leading up to this weekend, and I'm excited to watch them compete together. This is the first step in a long season, and our focus is on competing with purpose, building confidence, and continuing to raise the standard for UTEP Cross Country."
 
Competing for the women are Aubrey Arsenault, Isabella Campa, Kissleine Casarez, Bobbi Guillen, Mia Hairston, Brenda Jerop, Vallary Kiplagat, Salma Licon, Ashlyn McMillan, and Sofia Ramirez. Arsenault, Casarez, Hairston, McMillan, and Ramirez are making their UTEP debuts. 
 
For the men, Carmelo Corral, Julian Franco, Ameen Ibrahim, Nathan Kapel, Juan Leal, Frankie Medina, Sebastian Mendez, Israel Quintana, Paul Rotich, and Jacob Yeager will see action. Franco, Ibrahim, Kapel, Medina, and Mendez will make their debuts with the Miners. 
 
"We are looking forward to the start of the season. Our squad put in a lot of work this summer; we brought in some new athletes that we are excited about, and we are ready to see how we stack up," UTEP assistant coach Justin Herbert said. "Coach Rath and NMSU always put on a quality meet, so Saturday will be a good first test for this group."
 
The Miners will host the 40th Lori Fitzgerald Invitational on Sept. 19 at Ascarate Park.
