Yellin Shoots 6-Under to Lead UTEP Men’s Golf at the Arizona Intercollegiate Tuesday

TUCSON, Ariz. – Greg Yellin notched a top-15 finish as the UTEP men's golf team completed its first tournament of the spring season at the Arizona Intercollegiate at Tucson Country Club (par 72 – 7,022 yards) on Tuesday afternoon.

Yellin shot 6-under par, 210 (71, 69, 70) and placed 13^th (out of 80 competitors) to finish as the top Miner. Jacob Presutti (220), Marcus Khaw (221), Danny Daniels (226) and Greg Holmes (230) rounded out the order of finish for UTEP.

Yellin and Augusta's Alex van Wyk led the field with 39 pars each, while Yellin eagled hole no. 10 during the second round of action. Holmes eagled hole no. 14 during the third round.

No. 34-ranked host Arizona won the tournament, firing a 35-under par, 829 (274, 278, 277). No. 37 New Mexico finished in second place (34-under par, 830), while no. 5 Arkansas, the highest ranked team in the tourney, placed third (29-under par, 835). No. 39 Duke (5-under par, 859) placed tied for seventh and no. 30 San Francisco (4-over par, 868) finished 11^th. UTEP placed 14^th, shooting 10-over par, 874 (288, 297, 289).

Arizona's 83^rd-ranked Christian Banke won the two-day event, firing 14-under par, 202 (67, 69, 66). New Mexico's no. 72-ranked Sam Choi (13-under par, 203) and Brandon Shong (12-under par, 204), and Santa Clara's Jack Avrit (12-under par) finished in the top three.

The Miners will return to the links on Feb. 11 and 12 at the Wyoming World Match Play Championship in Palm Desert, Calif., hosted by Wyoming.
