UTEP T&F Returns to Albuquerque to Compete at the New Mexico Team Open Saturday

New Mexico Team Open Schedule and Heat Sheets

EL PASO – The UTEP track and field team is set to compete at the New Mexico Team Open on Saturday, Jan. 29 in the Albuquerque Convention Center. 
 
The men's and women's pole vault events will begin at 8 a.m., while the day will conclude with the men's 4x400 relay (3:40 p.m.) and the women's distance medley relay (3:50 p.m.).

UTEP will compete against 21 other programs, including host New Mexico, Arizona State, Grand Canyon, NM State, San Jose State, UCLA, UNLV and Washington State. 
 
Making the trip for the UTEP women's side are Loubna Benhadja (400m, 4x4), Chinique Brown (400m, 4x4, distance medley), Maribel Caicedo (60m, 60m H), Carolyne Chepkosgei (600m, 800m), Samantha Cordier (shot put, weight throw), Karoline Daland (mile, distance medley), Lizbeth Fierro (shot put, weight throw), Carshaylah Harrison (60m H, 4x4), Asia Hodge (60m, 200m), Krishna Jayasankar (shot put, weight throw),  Ruth Jerubet (mile, distance medley),Celina Johannsen (pole vault), Joan Kimaiyo (3000m), Kayla Larry (weight throw), Denae McFarlane (60m, 200m), Natalie Murillo (shot put, weight throw), Victoria Ovalles (mile, distance medley), Marissa Simpson (60m, 60m H), Sah-Jay Stevens (shot put, weight throw) and Karen Villa (60m, long jump, shot put).
 
Traveling on the men's side are Gabriel Armijo (3000m), Ned Azemia (400m, 4x4), Jakub Belik (high jump, long jump), Davion Bynaum (60m, 200m), Jalen Cadet (60m, long jump, shot put), Stephen Carreto (400m, 4x4), Benjamin Coronado (shot put, weight throw), Karon Dean (60m), Ronaldo Griffiths (400m, 4x4), Dennis Johnson (60m), Victor Kibiego (mile), Maxwell Kipkosgei (3000m), Yusuf Mohamud (mile, distance medley), Juan Olmos (3000, distance medley), Misael Ortiz (shot put, weight throw), Emilio Rios Jr. (high jump), Michael Sims (mile), Lorenz Smith (200m, 400m), Kenneth Talavera (3000m, distance medley), Aman Verma (400m), Osaze Williams (800m, distance medley) and Jordani Woodley (60m H).
 
Armijo, Daland, Olmos and Ovalles are competing in their first meet of the season.
 
The Miners experienced a wealth of success at last weekend's season opener in Albuquerque at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational as Woodley, a freshman, set a program record in the 60m hurdles, clocking in a 7.82, while fellow freshman Johannsen set a program record in the pole vault with a mark of 2.83m (12-6.75).
 
Dean made his mark in his UTEP debut as the transfer won the 60m dash with a time of 6.68. Johnson finished behind Dean with a time of 6.74.
 
Kibiego won the 3000m run in his Miner debut, clocking in an 8:25.71. Belik placed third in the pole vault in his collegiate debut, posting a mark of 2.11m (6-11).
