EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team will partake in its second fall tournament of the year at the Islander Invite hosted by Texas A&M – Corpus Christi from Friday through Sunday. The Miners will join the Islanders, Lamar and UTSA to comprise the field. Action will commence at 8 a.m. MT/9 a.m. CT at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center daily.
"After two weeks of practice we are ready to get back out on the court," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "I have seen everyone show a lot of improvement since San Diego, and now it's time to put it into action. It's going to be a very competitive weekend, and we are ready to play hard."
The Orange and Blue put their talents on display at the season-opening San Diego State Invitational from Sept. 30-Oct. 2, with
Thassane Abrahim and
Veronika Lebisova highlighting the action by winning a doubles title in their draw. They became the first Miners' tandem since 2016 to claim a crown at a fall tournament.
In singles action, transfer
Zuzanna Szczepanska paced the way by forging a 2-1 mark at the SDSU Invite. Abrahim and
Carlotta Mencaglia also tasted victory in singles.
Elena Dibattista and Szczepanska found success in doubles play by winning two of three in San Diego.
