PALM DESERT, Calif. – The UTEP men's golf team opened with a victory over no. 3 Colorado 4-1-1 Friday morning on the opening day in the Wyoming Desert Match Play at the Classic Club (par 72 – 7,305). UTEP finished out the tournament on Saturday, falling short against no. 1 San Francisco 4-2-0 in the third-place match.

"I'm really proud of our fight this week," UTEP Head Coach Aaron Puetz said. "I know we learned a lot and will get better because of it. We played the no. 1, 2 and 3 seeds and it easily could have gone our way in our last two matches."

In Friday's matches, Greg Yellin (4&3), Jacob Presutti (4&3), Marcus Khaw (5&4) and Damon Vilkauskas (3&3) each claimed victories. Danny Daniels came out with a win (1&2) against no. 2 Boise State in the semifinals. Yellin (2&1) and Khaw (9&7) penciled in victories against San Francisco on Saturday.
