EL PASO, Texas. – Veronika Lebisova recorded a win in straight sets as the UTEP tennis team (2-8) was knocked off by Pacific (6-4), 6-1, at the El Paso Tennis Club Saturday afternoon. Lebisova also teamed up with Thassane Abrahim for a victory in doubles action.
 
The sophomore took out Megan Carmichael, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5 singles. Abrahim and Lebisova defeated Klara Kosan and Miaangelina Ruja, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles.
 
"We fought hard today," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We had chances to win the doubles point, but could not close it out and had three matches that went to the third set. If we keep fighting this hard, I know things will turn around for this team."
 
The Miners took care of business at No. 1 doubles, but the Tigers won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the point and early lead in the match. Carlotta Mencaglia and Eve Daniels were edged out by Cindy Ung and Alexis Sam, 7-5, at No. 2 doubles. Lina Sachica and Kathleen Percegona fell to Megan Carmichael and Danielle Zamora, 6-3, at No. 3 doubles.
 
Lebisova was in top form in her victory at No. 5 singles. Percegona went back-and-forth with Ruja in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, setback at No. 1 singles. Mencaglia also went three sets only to fall against Kosan, 7-6, 4-6, 6-0, at No. 2 singles. Dibattista did as well but couldn't pull it out in a 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 defeat against Zamora at No. 4 singles.
 
Sachica came up short to Zoe ClydesdaleEberle, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3 singles and Daniels was dispatched 6-2, 6-2, by Same at No. 6 singles.
 
UTEP has a quick turnaround, competing at Ottawa (Ariz.) at 12 p.m. MT on Tuesday and then at Arizona Christian at 2 p.m. MT Wednesday.
