EL PASO, Texas. – The UTEP tennis team (2-8) hits the road for two matches in as many days when it competes at Ottawa (Ariz.) (5-4) at 12 p.m. MT Tuesday and at Arizona Christian (2-6) at 2 p.m. MT Wednesday. The matches will afford the Miners the opportunity to build some momentum heading into a 12 p.m. Sunday home match with UTPB.
"We are looking to get a fresh start on the road this week to hopefully jumpstart the rest of our season," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "I know we will continue to fight and improve with every match. I truly believe that we are one match away from turning this season around."
In singles action
Veronika Lebisova (4-2) and
Carlotta Mencaglia (4-5) share the team lead for wins during the dual season. Lebisova is riding a two-match win streak, with winning records at No. 3 singles (2-1) and No. 5 singles (1-0).
Elena Dibattista,
Kathleen Percegona and
Laura Schmitz all boast multiple victories during the dual season.
The Miners' double teams have been producing as well with
Thassane Abrahim and Lebisova joining forces to produce a 4-3 mark in dual action. Most recently the duo notched a win in a match-up against Pacific on March 12. Mencaglia and Percegona have also tasted success, forging a record of 3-3 during the dual season.
