Delfosse Leads Miners to Second Straight Top-Five Finish

FINAL RESULTS

HUNTSVILLE, Texas. – UTEP wrapped up the Bearkat Invitational fifth on Tuesday, while Sophie Delfosse posted a fourth-place result individually at the event hosted by Sam Houston.

By taking fifth, the Miners have now posted back-to-back top-5 finishes as a team for the first time since the fall of 2019.

UTEP shot a 908 (309, 298, 301), with multiple individuals improving their totals as the tournament went on.

Delfosse was strong in each round on the way to a 4-over par 217 (72, 74, 71). With 40 pars throughout the course of play, she ranked second amongst all competitors in that category. Her 1-over par on par 3 holes was tied for fifth in the field. She has been the top UTEP finisher nine times in her career and worked her way to five top-10 results.

After sitting in 25th after a day of play, Andrea Ostos stormed up the leaderboard on Tuesday with an even-par 71 in the final round that catapulted her up to a tie for 12th. Ostos shot a 224 (76, 77, 71).

Freshman Nawel Ben Letaief tied for 33rd with a 232 (79, 76, 77). Rounding out the individual scores for the Miners were Marta Romeu Chen with a 239 (82, 75, 82) and Daniela Chipchase with a 240 (85, 73, 82). Romeu Chen finished in a tie for 59th and Chipchase a tie for 61st.

Ostos and Ben Letaief were especially effective on par 5 holes for the tournament, as Ostos ranked 12th in the field with a 1-over par and Ben Letaief led all participants with a 2-under par.

In addition to the team competitors, Ella Hammond-Baveystock competed as an independent with a 269 (94, 88, 87).

Sam Houston won the team title with an 851 score, while Zulaikah Nasser represented the Bearkats as the top finisher with a 6-under par 207 (67, 69, 71).

The Miners will next take part in the Aggie Invitational hosted by NM State from Oct. 3-5.
