UTEP Men’s Golf in Second After 36 Holes at Mark Simpson Invite

ROUND 1 & 2 RESULTS

ERIE, Colo. – The UTEP men's golf team shot a season-low 281 in round one and will head into Tuesday's final 18 holes in second place after two rounds at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational hosted by the University of Colorado at Colorado National Golf Club (par 72 | 7,567 yards) on Monday.

The Miners (281-284—565, -11), through slight winds and light rain fall, followed with another solid round, firing a 284 and are seven strokes behind leader San Francisco (276-282—558, -18). Nevada (280-286—566) and Colorado State (283-283—566) are a stroke behind UTEP. Host Colorado (285-282—567) is fifth and Air Force (301-308—609) is last, 15 strokes behind the leader.
 
Jacob Presutti (70-70) was consistent through 36 holes finishing 4-under par 140, and moved up eight spots to tied seventh with six other competitors. Presutti shot 5-under on par 5 holes. 
 
Braden Smith (72-69) fired a career-low 69 in the second round and shot up 20 spots to tied 14th. Smith tallied a team-high 27 pars, and tied for third most overall. 
 
Greg Holmes got off to a hot start, firing a career-low 67 in the first round, but shot a 75 to drop 16 spots to tied 17th
 
Dylan Teeter (72-72—144) shot par and is tied 30th, while Patrick Foley (72-73—145) is tied 40th. Foley led the Miners with nine birdies. 
 
Mercer's Tobias Jonsson (68-70—138) and San Francisco's Benjamin Partridge (67-71—138) are tied for first at 6-under par, while four others are tied for third. 
 
The Miners shot a Monday-best 8-under on par 4 holes, while shooting 14-under in par 5s. UTEP tallied 116 pars and 38 birdies. Denver U had a field-most 120 pars, while Colorado State led the way with 44 birdies and tied with Valparaiso with two eagles.
