NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – DeCora Antoine picked up a win in both singles and doubles action to lead the way for the UTEP tennis team on the opening day of play at the CSUN Invite Friday. Hanna Telzynska, Paloma Hennicaux and Emma Stuart were also triumphant in singles.
 
Antoine rolled past Fatima Nemi Revilla (Cal Lutheran), 6-3, 6-4, in singles. She joined up with Elena Dibattista to defeat Aleksandra Dimitrijevic and Meagan Pearson (Portland), 6-4, in a quality showing in doubles.
 
"It was a tough first day for us," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We won four in singles and one in doubles. DeCora went undefeated today. She got our only doubles win, playing with Elena. Hanna, Paloma, Emma and DeCora won in singles."
 
Telzynska knocked off Leyanne Hirota (Pacific), 7-5, 6-1, with a particularly strong second set. Hennicaux drilled Audrey Large (CSU Fullerton), 6-1, 6-4, setting the tone for the match from the opening rally. Stuart made quick work of Francesca Aguirre (Westmont), 6-3, 6-0, to join in the winning ways.
 
Zuzanna Szczepanska showed tremendous resolve in a narrow 1-6, 7-5, 6-3, setback against Zara Fung (Pacific). Carlotta Mencaglia was bested by Alexis Sam (Pacific), 6-3, 6-1, and Veronika Lebisova went down swinging vs. Indiya McLeod (Pacific), 6-3, 6-4. Dibattista came up shy vs. Megan Carmichael (Pacific), 6-1, 7-6
 
Lebisova and Szczepanska were clipped by Iva Zelic and Alaia Rubio Perez (Portland), 6-3. Mencaglia and Telzynska were dispatched by Sally Pethybridge and Nadine Arbaizar Martinez (Portland), by the same score of 6-3. Hennicaux and Stuart couldn't get on track in a 6-0 setback at the hands of Rimona Rouf and Rose Watanabe (Portland).
 
The Miners, who have gotten progressively better at every tournament this fall, will look for a strong showing in the "Golden State" on Saturday.
