UTEP Welcomes Colorado State in “915 Game”

EL PASO, Texas –
UTEP women's basketball (4-3) hosts undefeated Colorado State (5-0) at 7 p.m. Thursday night in the Don Haskins Center.  The Miners are fresh off a gutsy, 15-point comeback victory against North Alabama on Sunday.

PREVIOUSLY ON…
The Miners earned a hard-fought 95-88 win against North Alabama on Nov 26. UTEP overcame a 15-point deficit to complete its largest comeback win since 2018. The 95 points are also the most scored since 3/11/20 vs FAU. The Orange and Blue outscored the Lions 31-20 in the fourth quarter. Erin Wilson led the way with a career-high matching and game-best 26 points and 11 rebounds. Adhel Tac pitched in a career-best 19 points to go with five rebounds and two assists. Jane Asinde scored 14 second-half points and Aaliyah Stanton posted a career-high 13 points in the contest. Mahri Petree chipped in seven points and five rebounds.
 
EXTRAORDINARY ERIN
Erin Wilson has been on an absolute tear this season, averaging 13.4 points and 9.0 rebounds. She leads the team in total rebounds (63) and offensive rebounds (32) while shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 68.3 percent from the charity stripe.
 
STANTON NAMED CUSA FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Aaliyah Stanton has stepped up big for the Miners recently. She averaged 5.4 points and 1.7 rebounds per game last week, playing her way to CUSA Freshman of the Week honors. Against UNA she posted career bests in points (13) and rebounds (four) She leads all Miners in three-point percentage, shooting 62.5 percent (5-8).
 
IN THE RANKS
Three Miners are currently putting up numbers that land them in the national rankings. Jane Asinde ranks first in conference and 15th in the nation in double doubles, Erin Wilson rates second in CUSA and 17th in the country in offensive rebounds per game with 4.6, and Delma Zita leads the league and sits 62nd nationally in assists per game at 4.8, to name some notables.
 
ALL ABOUT ADHEL
Adhel Tac poured in a career-high 19 points against Northern Alabama. She shot 6-10 from the field, including a pair of threes, and went 5-5 from the foul line.
 
RIPPING DOWN THE REBOUNDS
The Miners outrebounded the Lions 39-24 and led 15-5 on the offensive glass.
 
SCOUTING COLORADO STATE
The Rams (5-0) are one of 26 undefeated teams in the country. They have been getting it done on both ends of the court, but especially on defense.  They are the best in the country at taking care of the ball (7.0 turnovers per game) and assist-turnover ratio (+2.40). Colorado State ranks second in the nation in field goal percentage defense (29.3), fifth for scoring defense (48.4), and 11th in three-point percentage defense (21.4). They are shooting 45.9 percent (46th NCAA) from the field, 36.7 percent (37th NCAA) from three, and 76.1 percent (63rd NCAA) from the foul line. CSU has averaged 37.6 rebounds, 16.8 assists (48th NCAA), 7.4 steals, and 6.2 blocks (11th NCAA)  per game. Pacing the team is McKenna Hofschild, who's putting up 21.4 points per game, which leads the Mountain West and is 18th nationally. Marta Leimane (7.6), Sydney Mech (6.6), Cali Clark (6.2), and Sanna Ström (6.0) round out the top five scorers. Clark leads the team in rebounding with 7.6 per game, followed by Hannah Ronsiek with 4.6 and Hofschild with 4.2. Hofschild also leads the Rams in assists (8.8, 1st MWC/ 2nd NCAA) and steals (1.6) per game. Mech is second in the MWC and 43rd in the country in blocks per game (1.8).
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE RAMS
UTEP is 12-17 all-time against Colorado State. The two sides have not faced off since the 1997-98 season, which saw the Miners win 69-62 on 1/10/98 under former head coach Sandra Rushing.
