UTEP Soccer to Host FC Juárez Bravas in Exhibition

3/24/2023 8:30:00 AM

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP soccer and the FC Juárez Bravas announced on Friday that the two sides will be playing an exhibition game at University Field on April 10 at 7:30 p.m.

"The El Paso-Juárez region is a massive soccer community," said UTEP Head Coach Gibbs Keeton. "For us to host a match between the cities' top two female teams — our own program at UTEP and Liga MX Femenil club FC Juárez — is a game and opportunity I hope our cities will get behind."

Keeton, in his first season with the Miners, is an El Paso native and Montwood High School graduate. He joins UTEP after a successful tenure as an assistant at Texas Tech. During his time with the Lady Raiders, the program earned seven trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Admission is free and fans will have the opportunity to participate in a meet and greet with the new UTEP coaching staff along with the local El Paso players on the roster prior to the match between 6-6:45 p.m.

In addition, those in attendance will have the first chance to secure their spot for the upcoming fall campaign with ticket representatives on hand selling season tickets. Fans can receive a UTEP soccer scarf with the purchase of a season ticket.

This is the second time that the teams will meet, as UTEP hosted the international professional team in March of 2020.

Playing in the Liga MX Femenil, the Bravas are 5-3-1 this season, sitting sixth in the standings. The team became a part of the league in 2019 and is the women's unit of the FC Juárez club.

"Mexico's Liga MX Femenil is becoming a more and more impressive league every year, and often features talented NCAA players," Keeton said. "FC Juárez's Las Bravas are on the rise within the league and, like the Bravas, we aspire to improve our league's standing and will use this juego amistoso to better prepare us for the fall. We look forward to enhancing the relationship and continuing the friendlies between our cities."

The exhibition against the Bravas will serve as the lone home game of the spring slate for UTEP.
