DALLAS – Standout UTEP midfielder
Zeta McDannels has been voted to the 2025 Conference USA Women's Soccer All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Friday. It is the third consecutive campaign that the Miners have been so represented on the squad. Among those to be honored in the stretch include teammates
Ashlyn Neireiter (2023) and
Ana Quintero (2024).
McDannels was one of three Miners to start every match on the year. She scored on a diving header to help UTEP tie co-league leader WKU, 1-1, on the road on Oct. 16. McDannels also set up
Eve Barry's match winner in a 1-0 win at Boise State (9/7), which is the first program to claim back-to-back outright Mountain West Conference regular-season championships in a decade (San Diego State, 2014-15).
The Lubbock, Texas, native rated second on the team in both total shots (31) and shots on goal (13) while tying for fourth on the squad in points (three). Despite being a true freshman, she was a key player who rarely came off the pitch. McDannels earned 70+ minutes in 15 of 17 minutes. She went the entire 90 minutes in five matches while topping 80 in four others.
