UTEP Tennis Inks Prep Standout From Colombia

EL PASO, Texas – Prep standout from Colombia Valeria Carreño Torres has signed a national letter of intent to attend UTEP and compete with the Miner tennis team beginning in the fall of 2023, head coach Ivan Fernandez announced Wednesday. She will have four years of eligibility.

An accomplished player from Colombia who sports junior ITF tournament wins in both singles and doubles play … rose to as high as a junior ITF world ranking of 253 … also boasts ample tournament experience in the COSAT Circuit, in addition to Europe … can handle playing with pressure, evidenced by being the top-ranked player in Colombia in the 12, 14 and 16 year-old age groups … put together an 80-42 mark in singles action at various events dating to 2015.
