EL PASO, Texas – Coming off an emotional 4-3 triumph at UAB on March 19, the UTEP tennis team will look to keep things going when it plays at No. 64 LA Tech at 12 p.m. MT/1 p.m. CT Saturday before challenging Grambling State at 10 a.m. MT/11 a.m. CT Sunday.
The Miners (4-10) picked up their first league win since 2019 and initial conference road victory when they downed the Blazers. They will now vie to take down their first ranked foe since toppling No. 75 Rice, 4-3, on March 2, 2002.
UTEP has won two of the past three matches, and three different Miners are riding a winning streak in singles action.
"After two weekends without matches, we are ready to get back out on the court this weekend," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "We have two tough matches this weekend with No. 64 LA Tech followed by Grambling State. I know we are ready to fight and would love to keep our streak going this weekend."
Veronika Lebisova has peeled off three consecutive triumphs in singles on the way to posting a team-leading 12 total victories this season.
Carlotta Mencaglia had a huge win last time out, coming up with the clinching point in the victory at UAB. She now has matched Lebisova and
Thassane Abrahim with a team-high tying seven wins in dual play.
UTEP also took the doubles point at UAB, with Abrahim and Lebisova and
Elena Dibattista and
Zuzanna Szczepanska coming up clutch.
