EL PASO – UTEP Softball Head Coach T.J. Hubbard announced the addition of Brittney Matta to the Miners' coaching staff on Tuesday. Matta will work side-by-side with Hubbard as the Softball Associate Head Coach.Â
"I'm thrilled to welcome Brittney to our staff as Associate Head Coach," Hubbard said. "Brittney's head coaching record, attitude and enthusiasm stood out throughout the interview process. She brings a wealth of collegiate experience as a student-athlete, assistant coach, and head coach. Her ability to recruit and develop players will help UTEP Softball reach new heights. She will be tasked with leading our pitchers and catchers and serving as our recruiting coordinator.Â
Matta has most recently served as the Head Coach of South Mountain Community College where she revamped the program's culture and put together four successful seasons for the Cougars.Â

Matta served as an assistant coach at Mesa Community College under head coach Grady Moorhead from 2017-2019. She helped take MCC to the NJCAA Division II Regional Finals as the Thunderbirds were one win away from the Women's Junior College World Series.Â
Matta started at Arizona State in 2006 and was the only walk-on to make the squad. She was a member of the 2008 NCAA National Champions and then served as an undergraduate assistant coach on the 2011 NCAA National Champions.Â
She became the head coach at Highland High School in Gilbert, Ariz., in 2014. In her first year of coaching, she took her team into the Arizona Interscholastic Association playoffs.Â
Matta is originally from Northern California and graduated from Woodland High School, where she watched her father coach Dustin Pedroia. Matta has a daughter, Ava (10), who has been a huge part of her softball career.Â
