BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – UTEP women's basketball (6-10, 1-2 CUSA) will face off against WKU (12-7, 3-1 CUSA) Saturday in Bowling Green in the second of two road tests for the Miners. The team is looking to earn their first road victory of the 2023-24 campaign.

GETTING TO THE LINE
The Miners have attempted at least 20 free throws in four straight games. It is the first time since a seven-game streak to start the 2022-23 season.

UTEP had just 13 turnovers against Middle Tennessee, which marks the fifth game this season where it has had 13 or fewer turnovers.

OFFENSIVE UPTICK
The Miners have scored at least 70 points in four of the last five games after only hitting that mark in three of the first 11 contests.

PERIMETER DEFENSE
UTEP held Middle Tennessee to 29.3 percent (12-41) from three. It is the fourth time this season that the Miners have held an opponent to 30 percent or less from downtown. The best defensive effort came against Lamar, where the Cardinals shot just 18.8 percent (3-16) from beyond the arc.

Two Miners are putting up stats that place them in the top 100 in the national rankings in multiple categories.
Jane Asinde and
Erin Wilson are tied for second in CUSA and 49th in the nation in double-doubles with six apiece. Asinde also leads the league and is 24th in the NCAA in free throw attempts (100) and tops the conference while ranking 38th in the country in free throws (70). Wilson is second in CUSA and 15th nationally in offensive rebounds per game (4.1) and is third in conference, 55th in the nation in rebounds per game (9.0), to name a few.

SCOUTING WKU
The Lady Toppers are 12-7 on the year and 3-1 in conference play. They are averaging 66.9 points and 33.4 rebounds per game. The team is leading CUSA and ranked 28th in the country in steals per game (11.1). They are nationally ranked in multiple other categories, including topping the league and sitting 36th in NCAA in turnover margin (4.74), and ranking second in conference, 38th in the nation in turnovers forced per game (20.05). They are also second in CUSA and 59th in the country in three-point percentage defense (27.8) while ranking third in the league and 84th nationally in three-point attempts per game (22.2). Lastly, they sit second in conference, 91st in the nation in field goal percentage defense (38.1). Three Lady Toppers are averaging double digits in scoring, led by Acacia Hayes with 16.3. Destiny Salary is posting 13.6 and Alexis Mead is at 10.8. Karis Allen paces the team on the glass, averaging 5.2 rebounds per game, followed by Odeth Betancourt at 4.7. Mead tops the team in both assists (3.9) and steals (1.9) while Caitlin Staley is earning a team high 1.4 blocks per game. Staley is ranked fourth in CUSA and 90th in the nation in blocks per game (1.4). Mead leads the league and is 81st in the country in assists (75) and ranks first in conference, 91st nationally in steals (36). Hayes sits second in conference, 43rd in NCAA in free throws (69) and is second in CUSA, 58th in the nation in free throw percentage (85.2). She leads the league and is 76th in the nation in points (293), and sits third in conference, 96th in NCAA in free throw attempts (81).

SERIES HISTORY WITH THE LADY TOPPERS
The Miners are 3-6 against the Lady Toppers all-time. The last matchup between the two sides was during the 2022-23 season and saw UTEP fall 62-59 in Bowling Green on 3/2/23. UTEP's most recent victory against WKU came in the 2017-18 season when UTEP won 80-75 at home on 3/3/18.
