UTEP women's basketball (6-11, 1-3 CUSA) plays host to LA Tech (8-11, 2-2 CUSA) Thursday evening. The Miners are looking to break a three-game skid.
 
UTEP and LA Tech are slated for a 7:00 pm MT tipoff.

PREVIOUSLY ON...
The Miners lost a heartbreaker to WKU 66-65 last Saturday. UTEP led by as many as nine in the contest, but turnovers and WKU's advantage in second chance points (20-4) hurt the Miners. Jane Asinde led the team with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Erin Wilson put up 13 points and eight boards, and Luisa Vydrova added 10 points on 5-5 shooting to go with five rebounds.
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE QUEEN
Jane Asinde posted her seventh double-double of the season in a 19-point, 14-rebound performance at WKU. That puts her at 48 career double-doubles, including 27 at the Division I level.
 
ERIN "WINDEX" WILSON
Erin Wilson sits second in CUSA and 24th in the NCAA in offensive rebounds per game (3.8).
 
CLEANIN' UP THE GLASS AT THE OTHER END
Jane Asinde leads Conference USA and ranks 29th in the NCAA in defensive rebounds per game (6.9).
 
GETTING TO THE LINE
The Miners are averaging 20.5 free throw attempts per game, good enough for second in the league and 38th in the nation.
 
PERIMETER DEFENSE
UTEP held Middle Tennessee to 29.3 percent (12-41) from three. It is the fourth time this season that the Miners have held an opponent to 30 percent or less from downtown. The best defensive effort came against Lamar, where the Cardinals shot just 18.8 percent (3-16) from beyond the arc.
 
ATTACKING THE BOARDS
The Miners outrebounded WKU 39-33. They pulled down a season-high 33 defensive rebounds in the contest.
 
TARGET PRACTICE
UTEP shot 52.1 percent (25-48) from the field against the Lady Toppers. It marked the fourth time this season and third in the last six games that the Miners have shot 50 percent or better from the floor.
 
DOWN FOR DEFENSE
The Miners held the Lady Toppers to just 32.3 percent (21-65) from the floor, the lowest field goal percentage allowed by UTEP all year by a wide margin. The next lowest shooting percentage allowed came against Middle Tennessee (37.1).
 
IN THE RANKS
Two Miners are putting up stats that place them in the top 100 in the national rankings in multiple categories. Jane Asinde and Erin Wilson are tied for second in CUSA and 49th in the nation in double-doubles with six apiece. Asinde also leads the league and is 24th in the NCAA in free throw attempts (100) and tops the conference while ranking 38th in the country in free throws (70). Wilson is second in CUSA and 15th nationally in offensive rebounds per game (4.1) and is third in conference, 55th in the nation in rebounds per game (9.0), to name a few.
 
SCOUTING LA TECH
The Lady Techsters (8-11, 2-2 CUSA) are averaging 63.2 points, 34.4 rebounds, and 13.6 assists per game. The team is shooting 41.5 percent from the field and 31.4 percent from distance while also hitting 70.0 percent from the foul line. Anna Larr Roberson is leading the charge for LA Tech, putting up a team-high 12.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. Salma Bates ranks second in scoring with 11.8 points per game while topping the team in steals with 1.8 per game. Robyn Lee is putting up 8.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. Silvia Nativi ranks first on the team in assists (3.1) and contributes 6.0 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Mackenzie Wurm is averaging 1.0 blocks per game. Roberson also leads the team in field goal percentage (51.6) and is second on the team in free throw percentage (82.5). She is third in CUSA and 68th in the nation in field goal percentage (51.6) while Bates is second in conference, 27th in the NCAA in three-point attempts (131).
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE LADY TECHSTERS
UTEP is 11-16 all-time against LA Tech. The most recent contest between the two was in the 2022-23 season, where the Miners defeated the Lady Techsters 64-54 in the CUSA Championships on 3/9/23.
