TEMPE, Ariz.
– In a gripping doubleheader against Arizona State, UTEP softball delivered a riveting performance. Despite trailing by seven runs, a late seventh-inning grand slam by Ajia Richard brought the Miners within one, but the Sun Devils held firm, securing a 13-12 victory in a hard-fought opening number. The intensity continued in game two, though with less movement on the scorebook, as UTEP battled fiercely but ultimately fell 3-0 to Arizona State.

GAME 1 | ASU 13, UTEP 12
The Miners took an early lead with two runs in the first inning, thanks to RBI-singles by Halle Hogan and Lynne Sepulveda. However, the Sun Devils responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. UTEP surged ahead in the second inning, putting up four runs, including Hogan's two-RBI double and singles by Idalis Mendez and Bri Garcia, taking a 6-3 lead. ASU rallied with seven runs in the seventh, establishing a 10-6 lead. Adding three more runs in the fifth, ASU extended their lead to 13-6. Despite Rylan Dooner's two runs in the sixth and Ajia Richard's grand slam in the seventh cutting the deficit to 13-12, the Sun Devils held on to secure the win.

GAME 2 | ASU 3, UTEP 0
In game two, UTEP faced a tough challenge as ASU held them to no runs and limited them to just four hits. ASU managed to score one run in the second inning through a single, and in the sixth inning, two more runners crossed the plate with a double. Lexi Morales, Autumn Scott, and Anna Sample each contributed a single, while Kenna Collett added a double to the offensive effort.
