UTEP WBB Travels to Ruston for Thursday Matchup at LA Tech

UTEP women's basketball (9-15, 4-7 CUSA) will face off against LA Tech (9-17, 3-8 CUSA) in Ruston Thursday night in the first of two road matches for the Miners this week. Tipoff is set for 5:00 pm MT/ 6:00 pm CT.

PREVIOUSLY ON...
The Miners dropped a hard-fought defensive battle against Middle Tennessee last Saturday, 56-41. The game was close through three quarters before the Lady Raiders managed to pull away in the final period. The Orange and Blue grabbed 36 rebounds, tallied four assists, one block, and five steals in the contest. Aaliyah Stanton led the Miners with 11 points, followed by Jane Asinde with eight. Asinde paced the team on the boards with 11.
 
STANDOUT STANTON
Aaliyah Stanton led the Miners with 11 points against Middle Tennessee. It marks the fifth time this season that Stanton has scored in double figures.
 
DOWN ON DEFENSE
The Miners allowed just 56 points to the Lady Raiders, which is the second-fewest points scored by Middle Tennessee this season.
 
FEELIN' FINE AT THE FOUL LINE
UTEP is averaging 20.12 free throw attempts per game this season. That is good enough for second in conference and 41st in the nation.
 
HITTING THE BOARDS
The Miners outrebounded Middle Tennessee, 36-33. It's the 15th time this season that the team has tied or outrebound opponents.
 
DEFENSIVE HUSTLE
Jane Asinde leads CUSA and ranks 25th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (7.0).
 
IN THE RANKS
Two Miners are posting stats that rank them inside the top 100 nationally. Jane Asinde leads CUSA in three categories, doing so in free throw attempts (155-16th), free throws (104-44th), and defensive rebounds per game (7.0-25th). She also sits second in the league in an additional three areas. They are double doubles (10-38th), rebounds per game (9.2-50th), and rebounds (211-71st). Erin Wilson ranks fourth in CUSA and 88th nationally in rebounds per game (8.2)
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE QUEEN
Jane Asinde tallied her 10th double-double of the season after going for 15 points and a game-high 14 boards in limited action against WKU. She now has 51 career double-double, including 30 at the Division I level.
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLE THE TROUBLE
Erin Wilson has eight double doubles on the year. She is averaging 12.5 points and 8.2 rebounds this season, up from 6.6 points and 2.3 rebounds during the 2022-23 campaign.
 
A GRAND OL' TIME
Jane Asinde hit over 1,000 points in her D1 career after making a layup at the 7:01 mark of the second quarter vs. WKU. Asinde came into the contest needing only three points. She now has 1,020 career points going into the LA Tech game. She compiled 657 points in her time with Wichita State to go along with 363 (and counting) while donning the Orange and Blue.
 
SCOUTING LA TECH
The Lady Raiders are 9-17 in the 2023-24 campaign and 3-8 in Conference USA. They are averaging 62.0 points on 41.1 percent shooting. LA Tech grabs 33.5 rebounds per game while dishing out 13.5 assists. The team also tallies 7.3 steals and 2.5 blocks per game. Anna Larr Roberson paces the team with 12.0 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Salma Bates follows closely behind at 10.4 points. The next three leading scorers for the Lady Techsters are Robyn Lee (8.1), Jianna Morris (6.7), and Silvia Nativi (6.0). Nativi tops the team with 3.3 assists per game while Bates snatches a team-high 1.6 steals. Mackenzie Wurm leads LA Tech with 1.0 blocks per game. Roberson leads the team in both field goal percentage (50.6) and free throw percentage (81.8, min. 20 attempts) and Paris Guillory ranks first in three points percentage (42.1). Roberson ranks third in CUSA and 71st in the country in field goal percentage (50.6) and Bates is third in the league, 80th nationally in three-point attempts (160).
 
SERIES HISTORY WITH THE LADY TECHSTERS
The Miners are 12-16 against the Lady Techsters all-time. Earlier this season, UTEP defeated LA Tech,61-5,7 at home on 1/25/24.
