UTEP Women’s Golf Opens Spring Season at Texas State Invitational

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP women's golf heads to New Braunfels, Texas, to compete in the Texas State Invitational starting Monday. It will be the first tournament of the spring semester for the Miners.

The tournament will take place at the Landa Park Golf Course in New Braunfels (par 71, 5,915 yards). First round action tees off at 8:15 am CT in a shotgun start format. Round two will follow while the final round is Tuesday.

The last time the Miners participated in the Texas State Invitational was in the 2018-19 season, where they finished ninth out of 16 teams (294, 286, 311, +39).

The field will feature 15 teams, including Texas State, UIW, Sacred Heart, Oakland, Utah Valley, Drake, Murray State, Loyola, Central Michigan, UT-Arlington, Tarleton State, Abilene Christian, Lamar, UTRGV, and UTEP

Nawel Ben Letaief, Marta Romeu Chen, Lea Dawson, Ella Hammond-Baveystock, and Taline Kyoumjian will take the course as the first starting lineup of 2024.

UTEP has competed four times this season, tying for fifth out of 17 teams at MSU/ Payne Stewart Memorial, earning 5th out of 10 teams at the Red Raider Invitational, and placing 9th at both the Golf Iconic Classic and the Clash at Boulder Creek (out of 17 and 19 teams, respectively).

Last time out, the Miners tied the program record in the second round of the Clash at Boulder Creek (280). Chen was the top finisher for UTEP, tying for 22nd by posting a personal-best 54-hole total with a 1-under 215 (72,70,73).

UP NEXT:
Following the Texas State Invitational, UTEP will not compete again until the GCU invitational Feb. 27 and 28 in Phoenix, Ariz.
