EL PASO, Texas – After an outstanding showing in its first fall tournament of the season, the UTEP tennis team will look to build upon that success by playing at the ACU Invite from Friday through Sunday (Sept. 27-29).
"We are coming off a good weekend of play and hope to keep the momentum going another week," UTEP head coach
Ivan Fernandez said. "The field this weekend will very tough with a lot of great teams being represented. I know that it will be very challenging, but we are ready to test ourselves again."
The Miners forged a combined record of 20-7 (13-5 in singles, 7-2 in doubles) at the NM State Invite (Sept. 20-22), which was contested in hidden dual format.
Candice Bernier, Palmona Hennicaux and
Hanna Telzynska all posted undefeated (3-0) marks in singles.
Carlotta Mencaglia and Telzynska (3-0) and Bernier and
Zuzanna Szczepanska (3-0) were perfect in doubles play. Szczepanska also took care of business of singles by going 2-1.
UTEP will join host ACU, NM State, SMU, UTSA, Texas State, Texas Tech and Tarleton State to comprise a loaded field. Unlike the season-opening event with hidden duals this weekend's action will be contested in six flighted drawers with eight players in each.
