EL PASO, Texas – Nine home matches, including six straight to begin the spring, highlight the 2025 dual-match schedule for the UTEP tennis team, which was released by head coach
Ivan Fernandez on Thursday.
The Miners are coming off their best fall season since 2009, and they will now look to carry that momentum into dual play, culminating with the 2025 Conference USA Championships hosted by Liberty from April 16-20.
"After a strong fall semester, we are very excited about this spring schedule," Fernandez said. "We worked hard to make a competitive schedule with nine home matches and 11 on the road (including two neutral). We have some high expectations, and I have full confidence that this group can do great things."
During the fall, for only the second occasion in the past 15 years, UTEP had a winning percentage in both singles (54.2) and doubles (59.0) that was better than .500 during the tournament slate. The Miners compiled 68 total triumphs between singles (45) and doubles (23).
The Orange and Blue christen the spring against Western New Mexico on Jan. 18, which is the start of a six-match homestand. In total, nine foes will visit the Sun City. Including the Mustangs, UTEP will also lock up with UTSA (Jan. 19), Weber State (Feb. 6), UTPB (Feb. 9), New Mexico (Feb. 14), Lamar (Feb. 15), UC Irvine (March 2), and Conference USA opponents WKU (March 19) and Sam Houston (April 4).
The Miners don't hit the road until Feb. 21 (at Tarleton State), which is the latest date for the first road match of the season since the 2007-08 campaign. That year, the Miners had nine straight in El Paso before challenging Denver on March 1, 2008. UTEP has nine true road matches in 2025 while also playing a pair of contests in neutral sites.
Aside from locking up with Tarleton State, UTEP competes at Abilene Christian (Feb. 23), at NM State (Feb. 28), at Southern (March 11), at Nicholls State (March 13), at New Orleans (March 15), at Liberty (March 23), at ULM (April 11) and at LA Tech (April 13). The Miners also challenge Middle Tennessee (March 22) in Lynchburg Va. and Grambling State (April 12) in Ruston, La.
Al of the Miners' home matches will be contested at the El Paso Tennis Club and admission will be free of charge.
