UTEP Beach Volleyball Pushes Boise State to the Limit in Electric Home Debut

3/2/2025 5:00:00 PM

EL PASO – UTEP Beach Volleyball (6-4, 2-0 Conference USA) hosted its first-ever Division I home match at the UTEP Beach Courts on Sunday afternoon. The Miners battled hard but fell to Boise State in a closely contested 3-2 match.

A strong crowd of over 200 fans, including both UTEP and Boise State supporters, filled the venue, creating an electric atmosphere. The event featured DJ Jason Craig and Monica Castillo as MC, adding to the excitement and energy for the Miners' home debut of the 2025 season.

Boise State 3, UTEP 2

Despite the challenging windy conditions, UTEP put up a strong fight. On the exhibition court, UTEP's Katie Call and Adriana Oporto won 2-0. Boise State took the first point on Court 5 after a three-set performance, then extended its lead to 2-0 with a straight-sets win on Court 4. UTEP's Marian Ovalle and Mila Popovic dominated their match on Court 3 to put UTEP on the board, followed by Madison Hill and Ema Uskokovic delivering a straight-set victory on Court 2 to tie the match at 2-2. It all came down to the top court, where Boise State ultimately clinched the match with a straight-set win.

Coach Foo's Take

"I think the turnout was great," head coach Daniel Foo said. "I really appreciate all the people that came out to watch us. The energy out here was awesome—having DJ Jason Craig and Monica Castillo really brought the energy. It was pretty cool and special for the girls to have this type of atmosphere for their first Division I home match. Boise State was tough, but I think we played really well, especially in difficult conditions with how windy it was today. I'm really proud of my team, proud of the weekend—another 3-2 weekend, another winning weekend—and we just have to continue doing that."
