UTEP Track & Field Concludes First Day at Arizona’s Willie Williams Classic Friday Night

TUCSON, Ariz. – The UTEP track and field team finished the first day of outdoor competition with multiple Miners recording personal bests at Arizona's Willie Williams Classic at Roy P. Drachman Stadium on Friday night.
 
Jakub Belik finished first in the men's high jump at 2.10 meters (6-10.75). 
 
Vallary Kiplagat turned in a personal best time of 17:46.86 in the women's 5000-meter run. The sophomore's previous best was 18:51.67. 
 
Noah Jirgens hurled a personal-best 59.38 meters (194-9) in the men's hammer throw. His previous best was 58.68m (192-6). 
 
Rejoice Sule finished second of 71 competitors in the women's 200-meter dash with a 23.36 (+0.1).
 
Marissa Simpson clocked in a personal-best 23.82 (+0.2) in the women's 200, placing fifth. 
 
Freshman Addison Stricklin competed in her first career collegiate outdoor meet, clocking in a 24.07 in the 200 and finishing in ninth place. 
 
Loubna Benhadja clocked in a 58.24 in the women's 400-meter hurdles, finishing second overall among 27 runners. 
 
Juan Leal made his collegiate outdoor debut in the men's 1500-meter run as the freshman clocked in a 3:53.20. The El Paso native finished fourth out of 44 competitors. 
 
The Miners will wrap up their first outdoor action on Saturday with the field and running events starting at 11 a.m. MDT/10 a.m. MST. Live results here.
