UTEP Tennis Ventures Across The Country For Two CUSA Matches

3/21/2025 2:26:00 PM

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP tennis team (6-5, 0-2 CUSA) will be back in action with a pair of matches vs. league competition in the Eastern Time Zone this weekend, facing Middle Tennessee (10-5, 0-0 CUSA) in Lynchburg, Va., at 11 a.m. MT/1 p.m. ET Saturday before challenging Liberty (6-10, 0-0 CUSA) at 11 a.m. MT/1 p.m. ET Sunday. The contests continue a stretch of four straight matchups against CUSA opposition.

Though the Orange and Blue were upended by WKU, 4-1, on March 19, they still have won back-to-back matches outside of El Paso. A three-game road surge vs. DI foes hasn't occurred in a decade.

"We have two tough conference matches this weekend," UTEP head coach Ivan Fernandez said. "We know we are going to have to play well to win. I know we will compete hard as this team done all semester."

Paloma Hennicaux and Hanna Telzynska have both won three consecutive singles matches. Carlotta Mencaglia, the most-recent CUSA Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, has also posted consecutive triumphs. Overall, UTEP has claimed nearly 60 percent (26-18, 59.1 percent) of its dual matches in singles. The Miners are also above .500 (14-13, 51.9 percent) in dual-action for doubles matches.

Following the matches this weekend, UTEP will be idle until playing host to CUSA foe Sam Houston on "Senior Day" at 12 p.m. MT on April 6.
