EL PASO, Texas – UTEP Beach Volleyball head coach Daniel Foo announced the addition of two standout recruits — Deni McCalmont and Mia Theisler — who will join the Miners this fall and compete in the upcoming 2026 spring season.
Deni McCalmont | 5-8 | Frisco, Texas
A dynamic multi-sport athlete from Wakeland High School in Frisco, Texas, McCalmont lettered in volleyball, softball, and powerlifting — qualifying for regionals in powerlifting. On the sand, she competes for 692 Beach Volleyball Club, where she has compiled an impressive 122 wins across 238 matches and earned an 18U AA rating after placing third at the AVP/USAV Dual National Qualifier (June 28, 2025).
McCalmont has consistently finished near the top in elite national events, earning 44 top-10 finishes, 35 top-5 finishes, and five tournament titles. Among her notable victories:
- 1st at BVCA Club Challenge – AJV Sand (Open 5v5)
- 1st at 692 p1440/AVP Big Money Tournament (18U)
- 1st at BVCA Club Division 3v3 – AJV Sand '24
- 1st at 692 Next AVP Points Qualifier (16U)
Mia Theisler | 5-7 | Chandler, Arizona
Theisler comes to UTEP from Basha High School in Chandler, Arizona, where she was a three-year varsity letterwinner and two-time team captain. She was named the All-CUSD Offensive Player of the Year in 2024 and earned Premier Region First Team honors her senior season.
Representing One Beach 18 Select at the club level, Theisler has played in 186 matches with 83 wins and earned an 18U A rating after finishing fifth in her class at a National Qualifier (Jan. 11, 2025). She has 24 top-10 finishes and several podium appearances, including:
- 1st at SBF21 Club v Club (3v3 Division 3) playing for VolleyForLife-D3
- 2nd at SBF21 Power Qualifier #2 (Girls 14U Division)
- 3rd at National Qualifier (p1440/AVP America) (Class of 2025-26-Girls Division)
