UTEP Men’s Golf in Second, Trio of Miners in top 10 after 36 Holes at the Whirlwind Invitational Monday

CHANDLER, Ariz. – UTEP men's golf fired a 30-under par 546, and Alexandre Godin, Braden Smith and Dylan Teeter finished in the top 10 after two rounds of action in the Whirlwind Invitational at Whirlwind G.C. (par 72 | 7,222 yards) on Monday.

UTEP (274-272—546) is five strokes behind leader and host USC (269-272—541). Arkansas State (270-277—547), NM State (286-271—557) and James Madison (279-278—557) round out the top five teams. George Washington (292-292-584) is in last place (12^th).

Teeter shot rounds of 67 and 68, and is tied for second at 9-under par 135 with two other players heading into round three. The fifth-year golfer moved up six spots after firing 4-under par in the second round. Teeter tallied eight birdies. He shot 5-under par in round one, while recording an eagle on hole 17. Teeter only bogeyed once, on hole 16 in round two.

Alexandre Godin (72-64—136), following a slow start, rebounded with a career-best 8-under par 64 in round two to jump 30 spots and is tied for fifth overall. Godin had four bogeys and a double bogey in round one, but registered seven birdies and an eagle in the second round.

Braden Smith (71-66—137) jumped 23 spots to tie for eighth after a 6-under par in round two. After posting a few bogeys and one double on the first 18 holes, Smith penciled in seven birdies and only one bogey in round two.

Patrick Foley (64-74—138) got off to a hot start, recording his best round as a Miner, shooting 8-under par in round one. However, Foley dropped 11 spots to tie for 12^th after shooting 2-over par. Foley double-bogeyed hole 2 in the second round.

Valentin Luna (74-74—148) made his UTEP debut, competing as an individual. Marc Keller (74-77—151) shot 7-over par.

The final round will tee off at 8 a.m. MST/9 MDT on Tuesday with the awards ceremony slated for 1:15 p.m. MST/2:15 MDT.
