UTEP Men’s Golf Finishes Seventh at Arizona’s N.I.T. Tuesday

FINAL RESULTS

TUCSON, Ariz. – UTEP men's golf shot 7-under par 281 in round three to finish in seventh place of 13 teams at the 23^rd National Invitational Tournament hosted by Arizona at the Omni Tucson National Resort (Catalina Course | par 73, 7,262 yards) on Tuesday.

UTEP (287-286-281) shot 10-under par 854, finishing five strokes ahead of rival NM State (290-283-286—859). No. 5 Texas edged out host no. 30 Arizona for the team title. The Longhorns (275-270-278) shot 41-under par 823, while the Wildcats (267-288-269) were at 40-under par 824. Iowa State (284-285-266—835) was third after shooting 22-under par 266 in the third round.

Braden Smith (70-74-70) was the top Miner and tied 18^th overall at 5-under par 214. Smith led UTEP with 15 birdies and tied for sixth overall with three other competitors. Smith penciled in seven birdies in the final round.

Dylan Teeter (73-72-70) tied for 25^th at 4-under par 215. Dylan recorded 11 birdies and eagled hole 2 (par 5, 535 yards) in round one.

Valentin Luna (74-72-72) shot 1-under par 218 for a tied-for-37th-place showing. Luna registered 10 birdies.

Patrick Foley (76-72-73) finished tied for 47^th at 2-over par 221. Foley recorded nine birdies with six in the final round.

Alexandre Godin (74-78-78—230) rounded out the order of finish for the Miners.

Arizona's 42^nd-ranked Filip Jakubcik (68-69-68) won the individual title at 14-under par 205, two strokes ahead of 21^st-ranked Texas' Luke Potter (67-69-71—207). Iowa State's Owen Sawyer (69-72-67—208) was third.

The Miners will take their annual trip to Hawai'i to compete at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Ocean Course at Hokuala in Kauai on Feb. 12-14.
