UTEP Men’s Golf Tied for Fourth, Pair of Miners in Top Six after Round One at the 49th John A. Burns Intercollegiate Thursday

ROUND 1 RESULTS

LIHUE, Kaua'i – UTEP men's golf finished round one tied for fourth place, Braden Smith tied for second and Dylan Teeter is tied for sixth after 18 holes at the 49th John A. Burns Intercollegiate hosted by Hawai'i on the Ocean Course at Hokuala (par 70 | 7,098 yards) on Thursday.
 
UTEP penciled in 1-over par 281 and is tied with UNLV, New Mexico and BYU. The Miners are five strokes behind leader Loyola Marymount (276). Texas A&M (277) and Long Beach State (278) round out the top three teams on the leaderboard. Santa Clara (282) and San Diego State (282) are tied for eighth and a stroke behind UTEP. San Francisco (300) is in last place. 
 
UTEP ranks tied for second with Missouri, shooting 3-over on par 3 holes. The Miners and SDSU lead the field with 63 pars apiece. The Orange and Blue have added an eagle and 11 birdies. 
 
Smith fired a 3-under 67. Smith recorded five birdies, including four straight on holes 15-19. Smith opened the tournament by birdying hole no. 1. He's tied with Texas A&M's Aaron Pounds, Hawai'i's James Whitworth and Loyola Marymount's Trevor Algya.
 
Teeter shot 2-under par 68. Teeter registered three birdies. He's tied for sixth with Santa Clara's Calder Overfelt, San Diego State's Harry Takis, BYU's Kihei Akina, Texas A&M's Kris Kuvaas (IND), UNLV's Mason Snyder, Long Beach State's Norwin Gohm and Texas A&M's Wheaton Ennis. 
 
Utah's Sergio Jimenez is one stroke up and tops the leaderboard at 4-under par 66. 
 
Valentin Luna shot 1-over 71 and is tied for 32nd. Marc Keller (75) and Patrick Foley (75) are tied for 77th
 
Round two tees off at 9 a.m. HST/Noon MST.
