DAY 1 RESULTS

LUBBOCK, Texas – The UTEP track and field team recorded 13 personal bests on day one of the Jarvis Scott Invitational, hosted by Texas Tech, in the Sports Performance Center on Friday.

Praise Djoma turned in a personal-best leap of 6.16 meters (20-2.5) on the women's long jump and took the title in the process. Her previous best mark was 6.04m (19-9.75), which ranked second in Conference USA heading into the weekend. Djoma's mark edged out Kennesaw State's Myesha Hall's CUSA-best of 6.13 meters (20-1.5).

Cydni Martin entered the weekend with a personal-best time of 8.61 in the women's 60-meter hurdles. The freshman beat that time with an 8.58 in the 60H first round to advance to the semis, where she then turned in a personal-best 8.50 and came up short of advancing to the finals.

Martin also set a personal best in the 60-meter dash, turning in a 7.64.

"It was an exciting day of competition for us. We had 13 personal best performances, and you can feel the momentum building as our athletes continue to step up and compete with confidence," first-year UTEP Head Coach Francesca Green said. "I'm especially proud of Praise getting the win in the long jump B section with a huge personal best of 6.16 meters. What I loved even more was her consistency. All but one of her jumps were at or beyond her previous best. That's big-time progress. Consistency is so important, and that's how you build performances you can trust in as we get ready for Conference Championships.
The job isn't finished. We get another opportunity tomorrow, and we want to carry this energy forward, stay locked in on the details, and keep pushing our level higher."

In the men's 60, Elias Munoz (6.89), Deondre McIntosh (6.93), Joseph Gomez Whitten (7.03) and Joshua Ford (7.08) set personal bests.

Andrea Castillo clocked in a PR 2:26.30 in the women's 800. In the women's 400, Madison Evans (57.70) set personal bests, and on the men's side, Mathew Polk (48.91) and Zion Meaders (49.80) posted PRs.

Saturday will begin at 10 a.m. MST/11 CT with the women's 200-meter dash B final, the men's and women's triple jump, and the men's pole vault.
