UTEP’s Schliesing Tied for First after First Round in the Bahamas Friday

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – UTEP's Max Schliesing is tied for first place after firing a 6-under par on the first 18 holes at the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational at the Ocean Club Golf Course at Paradise Island (par 72 | 7,159 yards) on Friday. 
 
Schliesing shot a 66 and is tied with Southern Miss' Ryan Dupuy and Sam Houston's Bret Gray. UTEP shot a 287 (1-under par) and is in tenth place after first round action. 
 
Schliesing recorded four birdies (holes 1, 2, 6 & 7) and eagled at hole no. 13 (par 5, 573 yards). He shot 4-under on the front nine and 2-under on the back. The junior product from Zermatt, Switzerland, shot 4-under on par 5s, 2-under on par 4s, and even on par 3s.  
 
Saturday's second round will tee off with an 8 a.m. ET/6 MT shotgun start.

Arkansas State (274, 14-under par) leads the pack, while no. 38 Duke (276, 12-under) is second and Stetson (277, 11-under) is third. The Miners are one shot off ninth-place Troy (286) and ahead of Texas State (291) and Delaware (301). No. 44 Southern Miss (279, 9-under) is tied fourth with Sam Houston. 
 
Greg Holmes (72) is tied for 34th after shooting par. Jacob Presutti (74) is tied for 48th, while Marcus Khaw (75) is tied 59th and Kristjan Burkelca (77) is tied 62nd.
 
The Miners tied first with VCU, shooting 2-over on par 3s, and recorded 17 birdies on the day. 
 
THE COURSE
The par-72 Ocean Club Golf Course, designed by past major champion Tom Weiskopf, will play 6,415 yards for the women, while the men will play at 7,159 yards. This year marks the third year for the event, first played in 2019 and again in 2021. Texas and Campbell are past winners of the women's competition, with Houston and Mississippi winning the two men's team championships.
