UTEP’s Schliesing Lone Leader After Two Rounds in the Bahamas Saturday

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – UTEP's Max Schliesing continued his excellent play as he fired a 67 in the second round and is atop the leaderboard after 36 holes at the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational at the Ocean Club Golf Course at Paradise Island (par 72 | 7,159 yards) on Saturday. 
 
Schliesing (66-67—133) is at 11-under par overall and is up two strokes on Duke's Luke Sample (68-67—135) and Southern Miss' Ryan Dupuy (66-69—135). 
 
UTEP (287-281—568) improved six strokes from Friday, shooting 7-under par on Saturday and moving up three spots to tied seventh with Nebraska (280-288—568). The Miners are 8-under par after two days of play and is three strokes off sixth place ULM (282-283—565). No. 38 Duke (276-271—547) leads the pack at 29-under par, while no. 44 Southern Miss (279-280—559) is second at 17-under and Arkansas State (274-286—560) dropped two spots to third at 16-under.
 
Schliesing recorded five birdies (holes 2, 13, 14, 15 & 17) and has nine birdies on the weekend. He's totaled 26 pars as well. He's shooting 6-under on par 5 holes. 
 
Sunday's third round will tee off with an 8 a.m. ET/6 MT shotgun start.

Greg Holmes (72-72—144) is tied for 34th after shooting par for a second consecutive day. Marcus Khaw (75-70—145) moved up 20 spots after shooting 2-under par and is now tied for 39th. Jacob Presutti (74-72—146) is tied for 45th, and Kristjan Burkelca (77-77—154) is tied 66th.
 
Presutti has recorded nine birdies overall, while Holmes eagled hole no. 13 (par 5, 573 yards). Schliesing eagled the same hole on Friday. 
 
THE COURSE
The par-72 Ocean Club Golf Course, designed by past major champion Tom Weiskopf, will play 6,415 yards for the women, while the men will play at 7,159 yards. This year marks the third year for the event, first played in 2019 and again in 2021. Texas and Campbell are past winners of the women's competition, with Houston and Mississippi winning the two men's team championships.
