UTEP’s Schliesing Finishes Tied Third at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational

PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – UTEP's Max Schliesing (66-67-72) fired a career-low 205 after 54 holes on the final day at the White Sands Bahamas NCAA Invitational at the Ocean Club Golf Course at Paradise Island (par 72 | 7,159 yards) on Sunday.

Schliesing was a stroke off leaders Southern Miss' Ryan Dupuy (66-69-69—204) and Duke's Luke Sample (68-67-69—205). Dupuy captured the championship in a playoff hole.

Marcus Khaw (75-70-67) fired a season-low 212. Khaw shot 5-under par on Sunday and shot up 18 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 21^st. Khaw rebounded and shot a season-low 67 in the third round after shooting a 75 on Friday and 70 on Saturday. Khaw penciled in four birdies and eagled hole no. 13 (par 5, 573 yards) on Sunday.

Jacob Presutti (74-72-72—218) tied for 39^th, Greg Holmes (72-72-75—219) tied for 46^th and Kristjan Burkelca (77-77-74—228) finished 67^th.

UTEP led the field with five eagles and Holmes tallied two to lead all players during the weekend. Schliesing, Khaw and Presutti recorded an eagle each. Schliesing, Holmes and Khaw all eagled hole no. 13, while Holmes and Presutti eagled hole no. 6 in the third round.

Schliesing recorded 15 birdies to lead the Miners and tied sixth in the tournament. Presutti tallied 12 birdies and Khaw 11.

No. 38 Duke (276-271-276—823) won the team title at 41-under par. Stetson (277-286-280—843) placed second and Arkansas State (274-286-287—847) finished third. The Miners (287-281-285—853) shot 11-under par and fished 10^th ahead of Texas State (291-288-289—868) and Delaware (301-295-278—874).

UTEP will head to another event in paradise when it competes at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Kauai, Hawai'i, on Feb. 16-18 to open the spring season.
