UTEP Men’s Golf Places in Top 10, Schliesing Fourth at Mark Simpson Invitational Tuesday

BOULDER, Colo. – The UTEP men's golf team played out its best finish of the season, placing sixth at the 12th Annual Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational hosted by the University of Colorado on Tuesday at Boulder Country Club (par 70 | 7,110 yards). 
 
The Miners (283-289-277) shot a season-low 849 and a season-best 277 in the third round. UTEP shot 11-under par on par 5 holes during the two-day, 54-hole event.
 
Wyoming (271-288-279—838) won the Mark Simpson, while host Colorado (274-283-282—839) placed second and Conference USA's Rice (274-281-288—843) finished third. 
 
Max Schliesing (71-71-65—207), who started the third round tied for 21st, was the headliner for the Miners after shooting up 17 spots to finish fourth out of 92 competitors. Schliesing led the field with 14 birdies. Schliesing posted his first top 10 finish and best placing as a Miner, while firing career lows in overall score (207) and round (65). 
 
Rain halted Monday's second round as Schliesing played through 10 holes in the second and was tied for 41stwhen the round continued early Tuesday morning.
 
Schliesing shot a 3-under on par 4 and 5 holes. He added 30 pars to go along with his field-high 14 birdies. 
 
Utah Valley's Brady McKinlay (69-68-66—203) won the individual title, shooting 7-under par. Rice's Raghav Chugh (67-68-69—204) shot 6-under par, placing second and Colorado's Justin Biwer (70-69-67—206) shot 3-under for a third-place finish. 
 
Jacob Presutti (69-74-69) shot a career-tying best 212, including a season-low 69 in the first and third rounds. Presutti finished tied for 19th. Greg Holmes (70-71-74) first a career-best 215 (tied 37th), Marcus Khaw (74-74-69) shot a 217 (tied 51st) and Kristjan Burkelca (73-73-74) shot a 224 (80th).
 
Khaw shot a 6-under par on par 5 holes, tying Rice's Henry Daly for best during the event. Khaw and Holmes each tallied an eagle. Khaw got his on no. 12 (par 5, 561 yards) during round 1, while Holmes recorded his on no. 2 (par 5, 585 yards) in round 1.
