UTEP Men’s Golf Finishes 10th at John A. Burns in Hawai’i

FINAL RESULTS

LIHUE, KAUA'I – The UTEP men's golf team concluded its first spring tournament, finishing 10th at the 2023 John A. Burns Intercollegiate at the Ocean Course at Hōkūala (par 72 | 6,905 yards).
 
The tournament was completed late Friday after heavy rain forced round three to start early. 
 
Overall, the Miners shot 16-under 848 (282-282-284). BYU (273-271-266) won the event, running away from its competition with a 54-under 810, while no. 19 Arizona (278-276-274) shot 36-under 828 to finish second and no. 9 Texas A&M (286-279-267) shot 32-under 832 to place third. 
 
Max Schliesing (70-72-65) moved up 20 spots to tied 20th after firing a 65 in the third round. Schliesing fired a 9-under 207. Marcus Khaw (67-69-74) struggled in the third round after a solid first 36 holes. Khaw shot 6-under 210 and finished 25th.
 
Texas A&M's Sam Bennett (-18, 70-67-61—198) and Cal's Sampson Zheng (-18, 65-68-65—198) were co-champions. BYU's Carson Lundell (-17, 70-63-66—199) finished tied third with Long Beach State's Ian Gilligan (-17, 61-71-67—199). 
 
Ryan Lewis eagled hole no. 10 (par 5, 560 yards) in the third round in his UTEP debut. Schliesing led the Miners with 15 birdies, while Greg Holmes led with 39 pars (fourth most overall). 
 
UP NEXT
UTEP will compete at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate hosted by Michigan in Scottsdale, Ariz., on March 4-5.
