UTEP Men’s Golf to Compete at Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Arizona April 3-4

EL PASO, Texas – The UTEP men's golf team, coming off its second top-five finish of the season, will tee off in its second to last regular-season spring event when the Miners take the links at the 2023 Wyoming Cowboy Classic hosted by Wyoming at The Cattail Course at Whirlwind Golf Club at Wild Horse Pass (par 72 | 7,334 yards) in Chandler, Ariz., on Monday and Tuesday.

The 54-hole event tees off on Monday morning with rounds one and two (36 holes) at 8:30 a.m. MT. The final 18 will be played on Tuesday.

The 21-team field includes UTEP, host Wyoming, Denver, Grand Canyon, no. 78 Iowa State, no. 57 Kansas, no. 59 Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, no. 46 Missouri, Pacific, no. 28 San Diego State, Saint Mary's College, Southern Utah, no. 42 TCU, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, no. 95 UNLV, UT Arlington, Utah State, Utah Valley, and Weber State. Individuals from Arizona State will also be competing.

Making the trip for the Miners are Max Schliesing (72.2 scoring avg.), Marcus Khaw (72.9), Greg Holmes (74.3), Jacob Presutti (73.1), and Ryan Lewis (79.8).

UTEP's Season Stats.

The Miners shot an 885 (300-298-287) at the Oregon Duck Invitational at Eugene CC (par 71, 6995 yards) on March 27-28. UTEP finished tied for fifth out of 14 programs. It was the third team top-10 finish of the season.

Schliesing (70-69-70) finished as the top Miner, placing third overall for his best showing of the season. He shot 4-under par 209. It was his second top-three finish (tied third at White Sands Bahamas Invitational), and fourth top-10 finish of the season. Schliesing added 21 birdies, the second most amongst the competitors.

Presutti achieved his best finish of the season with a fourth-place finish. The junior shot 3-under par 211 and closed with a season-low 67 in the final round of play to climb up seven spots on the leaderboard.

UTEP will conclude the regular season at the Tunica National Intercollegiate hosted by Arkansas State on April 17-18. The Conference USA Championship is set for April 24-27 in Texarkana, Ark., at Texarkana Country Club.
