UTEP Golf’s Khaw & Schliesing Named NCAA DI All-America Scholars

NORMAN, Okla. – UTEP's Marcus Khaw and Max Schliesing were announced as 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholars for NCAA Division I on Wednesday. 
 
Schliesing concluded his first season with a team-best 72.5 stroke average. The junior played in all 11 tournaments, finishing as the top Miner in seven events, while placing in the top 10 four times. Schliesing maintained a 3.25 GPA in marketing. 
 
The Zermatt, Switzerland, native placed third at The Duck Invitational, shooting 4-under par 209 (70-69-70), while also finishing tied for third at the White Sands Bahamas Invitation at 11-under par (66-67-72). Schliesing's 205 in the Bahamas was a season best for 54 holes. At the Mark Simpson Colorado Invite, he finished in fourth place, shooting 3-under par 207, including a season-low 65 in the third round of action. Schliesing placed tied for eighth at the Little Rock Invitational (even-par 216). He tied for 18th at the Conference USA Championship at 6-over par 222 (78-72-72). Khaw concluded the campaign as an All-CUSA second-team performer. 
 
Khaw concluded his career at UTEP playing in all 11 events, ranking third on the team with a 73.8 stroke average. He finished as the top Miner in the three of the tournaments, along with a pair of top-10 finishes. Khaw kept up in the classroom with a 3.20 GPA in marketing. 
 
The product of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, opened the season tied for ninth, shooting a 3-under par 213 (69-72-72) and finishing as the top Miner at the Gene Miranda Invitational. Khaw's top score was 6-under par 210 (67-69-74) at the John Burns Intercollegiate. He added a season-low 67 in the first round at the John Burns. Khaw's best finish was tied for seventh at the Desert Mountain Collegiate at 2-over par 218 (71-72-75). He shot 4-under par 212 at the White Sands Bahamas Invitational. 
 
ABOUT THE GCAA HONOR
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division, I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative career GPA of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
