UTEP Inks Men’s Golf Coach Aaron Puetz to Five-Year Extension

EL PASO, Texas – UTEP Vice President and Director of Athletics Jim Senter announced on Friday that men's golf coach Aaron Puetz has signed a five-year contract extension, keeping him with the Miners through the 2029-30 season.

Puetz led UTEP to the match play finals and back-to-back runner-up finishes in Conference USA in 2024 and 2025.

"Our men's golf team has enjoyed a steady ascent under coach Puetz's leadership, rising 56 spots in the national ranking over the last four years," Senter said. "The Miners came ever so close to winning a league title in 2024 and 2025, and we're looking forward to continued championship runs with coach Puetz at the helm of the program."

"We came to El Paso in 2021 with an unbelievable opportunity to build and grow a historic program," Puetz said. "We have come a long way in these four short years and are excited to continue to take our momentum into the Mountain West Conference."

Puetz took over as head coach of the Miners in August of 2021, following seven years heading up the program at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix. Over the last two seasons, the Miners have picked up 11 top-five finishes while rising to a top-100 national ranking. UTEP placed two players on the All-Conference USA Team in each of the last two years, including first teamer Max Schliesing in 2025.
