Last Time Out: Sam Houston Series

UTEP opened Conference USA play against Sam Houston last weekend, dropping the first two games before securing a dramatic walk-off win in the series finale.

The Bearkats claimed the opener Friday night, 6-0, building an early lead and limiting the Miners offensively. Sam Houston's starter tossed a no-hitter, with UTEP's lone baserunner coming when Marissa Burchard was hit by a pitch to begin the game. Tatyana Vega started in the circle for the Miners and struck out five over four innings.

Sam Houston followed with a 13-5 run-rule victory in five innings on Saturday after scoring 13 runs in the opening frame. UTEP responded with five runs of its own, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Jordan Credeur and a three-RBI pinch-hit double from Paige Lassiter.

The Miners bounced back Sunday with a 3-2 walk-off victory. Kenna Carranza delivered the game-winning single in the seventh inning to score Burchard. Halle Hogan added a home run, while Bri Garcia contributed an RBI double. Vega earned the win in relief as UTEP recorded its fifth walk-off victory of the season.
