Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RUSTON, Louisiana – UTEP softball dropped both ends of a Conference USA doubleheader to Louisiana Tech on Thursday afternoon at Billy Bindrick Field, falling 5-0 in game one and 3-0 in game two.

The Miners move to 12-36 overall and 4-22 in league play, while the Bulldogs improve to 28-23 (14-12 CUSA).

Overall Recap

UTEP was held scoreless across both games despite tallying 10 total hits on the day, as Louisiana Tech's pitching limited opportunities with runners in scoring position. Iliana Munoz led the way offensively, recording hits in both contests, while Aaliyah Betancourt provided a spark in game two with a multi-hit performance.

In the circle, both Hannah Jones and Tatyana Vega turned in complete-game outings, combining for 12.0 innings of work.

Game 1 LA Tech 5, UTEP 0

LA Tech struck early and never let up, plating a run in the first inning on an RBI double before adding two more in the second to take a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the fifth to secure the 5-0 victory.

UTEP recorded four hits in the contest, with Munoz delivering the Miners' first hit in the top of the fourth. Kenna Carranza followed with a single, while Brantley Lavas and Betancourt added base knocks in the fifth.

Jones got the start in the circle and went the distance, tossing a complete game (6.0 innings) while allowing five runs. She was charged with the loss, moving to 0-6 on the season.

Game 2 LA Tech 3, UTEP 0

The Bulldogs once again jumped out to a quick start, scoring twice in the opening frame on an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to build a 2-0 advantage. LA Tech added its final run in the fourth on a solo home run to make it 3-0.

UTEP collected six hits in game two, highlighted by a double from Munoz in the first inning. Betancourt went 2-for-3 with a double, while Halle Hogan, Marissa Burchard, and Kendall Angulo each added singles.

The Miners also showed patience at the plate, drawing walks from Hogan and Jayde Pagdilao, and Betancourt reached base on a throwing error in the sixth.

Vega delivered a complete-game effort in the circle, allowing three runs over 6.0 innings while striking out three. She was handed the loss and falls to 9-14 on the year.
