UTEP T&F Concludes Stan Scott Invite, as Multiple Miners Set Personal Bests Friday Afternoon

1/23/2026 8:23:00 PM

EL PASO – The UTEP track and field team combined for 20 personal bests at Texas Tech's Stan Scott Invite in the Sports Performance Center on Friday afternoon.

A total of 14 Miners set personal records in their respective events.

"I was really proud of how we competed today at the Stan Scott Invite. Israel [Quintana] ran a huge personal best in the 3000 meters, and Salma [Licon] followed with a big PR in the mile. We also had personal bests from Amai Newman, Amari Taylor, and Sebastian Avena in the 400 meters, along with a few others across the meet. Anytime you can run at your best, that's a great thing and a sign the work is moving in the right direction," first-year UTEP Head Coach Francesca Green said. "We're continuing to make progress, and our focus now is tightening up the details and raising our level across the board. Over the next two weeks, we'll get back to work and build momentum as we prepare for the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. The expectation is continued improvement."

Freshman Cydni Martin, CUSA's third-ranked 200 sprinter heading into competition day, clocked in a personal-best 24.47, winning her heat and finishing 13th overall of 33 competitors. She set a personal best in the 60-meter dash with a 7.68.
