UTEP Track & Field to Compete at Four Meets in California April 17-19

EL PASO – UTEP track and field will be spread around the West Coast as the Miners will open competition at Long Beach State's Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday at Jack Rose Track. Azusa Pacific's Bryan Clay Invitational will feature distance events on Thursday and Friday in Cougar Athletic Stadium. The Miners will also see action at Long Beach State's Beach Invitational on Friday and Saturday, and a trio of UTEP hurdlers will compete at the 65th annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., at Hilmer Lodge Stadium on Saturday.

"We are taking this event as a conference championship preview. It'll be three straight days of extremely competitive fields on historic sites and in good conditions. This is just what the team needs now. All groups will be tested at the highest level here this weekend," UTEP Director of Track & Field Mika Laaksonen said.
 
Competing for the women's squad at the Pacific Coast Invitational on Thursday are Loubna Benhadja (400H), Chinique Brown (200), Praise Djoma (long jump, triple jump), Sarah Dovenbarger (pole vault), Peace Ewa (high jump), Lizbeth Fierro (shot put, hammer), Samahdi Foster (400H), Denae McFarlane (100), Natalie J. Murillo (discus, hammer), Samoya Neil (200, long jump), Esther Osisike (shot put, discus), Alla Parnov (pole vault), Cailee Phillips (400H), Marissa Simpson (100H), Addison Stricklin (200), Rejoice Sule (200) and Princess Uche (400). 
 
Going for the men at the PCI are Sebastian Avena (400), Jakub Belik (high jump), Oleksandr Blonskyi (110H, pole vault), Alex Brown (triple jump), Harrison Canfield (pole vault), Stephen Carreto (400H), Joseph Gomez Whitten (100), Joshua Hill (400), Aleks Hristov (shot put, discus), Noah Jirgens (hammer throw), A'tiq Muhammad (100, long jump), Julio Pacheco Estrada (400), Mathew Polk (400), Zacarias Velasquez (long jump), Xavier Westmoreland (shot put, discus), Amir Williams (110H) and Jordani Woodley (110H). 
 
Vallary Kiplagat (1500), Evan Avitia (800), Juan Leal (1500) and Aron Tanui (800, 1500) are competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational. The 800-meter events will run on Thursday and the 1500-meter races will be held on Friday evening.
 
Heading to the Beach Invitational on the women's side are Brown (400, 4x400), Djoma (long jump), Dovenbarger (pole vault), Ewa (high jump), Fierro (hammer), Foster (400H, 4x400), McFarlane (100, 4x100), Murillo (discus, hammer), Neil (100, 4x100), Osisike (shot put, discus), Parnov (pole vault), Phillips (400H), Stricklin (100, 200, 4x100), Sule (100, 4x100, 4x400) and Uche (400, 4x400).
 
On the men's side at the Beach Invitational are Avena (400, 4x400), Belik (high jump), Blonskyi (pole vault), Brown (long jump, triple jump), Canfield (pole vault), Carreto (400H, 4x400), Gomez Whitten (100), Hill (400, 4x400), Hristov (shot put, discus), Jirgens (hammer throw), Muhammad (100), Pacheco Estrada (400, 4x400), Polk (400), Velasquez (long jump), Westmoreland (discus) and Williams (110H).
 
A trio of Miners will see action at the Mt. SAC Relays as Benhadja (400H), Simpson (100H) and Woodley (110H) will see action in the elite division on Saturday.
