Pre-Game Tailgate Planned For Season Opener 

UTEP will face I-10 rival New Mexico State in its season and home opener at 7 p.m. on Aug. 19, and a fan-friendly pre-game tailgate will be held.

2011 Schedule Announced 

UTEP head coach Kevin Cross has revealed the 2011 schedule, with 12 home matches highlighting the 20-contest slate.

UTEP will renew the battle of I-10 in the season and home opener against NM State (Aug. 19), hold the second-annual Border Bash (Aug. 26 & 28), the 12th-annual Border Shootout (Sept. 9 & Sept. 11) while also playing seven of its 11 Conference USA contests at University Field. That fact bodes well with UTEP's record of 78-12-3 at home since 2002.

Overall the Miners will face three 2010 NCAA Championship participants throughout the 2011 fall season. The Miners will be in search of their 10th straight winning season, all of which have featured 10+ victories.

2011 Miners Soccer Academy Going Strong 

The 2011 Miners Soccer Academy will continue from July 13-17. Numbers for the summer camps are the best in program history, as they are nearing 300.

The camps offer soccer players of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to learn from Miner players and coaches. The first camp of the summer in June had plenty of fun drills and activities.

Parker Represents UTEP With Canada At FIFA Women's World Cup 

Former UTEP standout player and assistant coach Kelly Parker realized a lifelong dream by playing for Team Canada at the FIFA Women's World Cup. The former Miner great took part in a Q&A session about the World Cup and more on June 30.

She was also profiled in the El Paso Times before the team competed in the event.

When she is not representing her country, Parker is competing with the Atlanta Beat of the WPS.

She was the MVP of the league in 2010 and helped lead her squad to the championship.

The Miners have been embraced by El Paso, and they have rewarded the faithful by turning into a league and regional power. Consider the following accomplishments under head coach Kevin Cross (* denotes prior to start of 2011 season):

  • Conference USA best-tying 85 wins since joining the league in 2005*
  • Racked up 114 victories to tie for 13th nationally since 2002*
  • Scored 472 goals to place eighth in the country since 2002*
  • Posted mark of 78-12-3 at home since 2002
  • Garnered the No. 2 RPI in the state of Texas in 2009
  • Won a school-record and C-USA-best-tying 20 games in 2005
  • Beat Texas, 3-2, on the road in OT to advance to the second round of the '05 NCAA Tournament
  • Earned a regional ranking for a school-record seven straight years
  • Represented on the all-conference team 24 times*
  • Accounted for 11 of the 12 all-region honorees in school history*
  • Claimed 46 athletic weekly awards. UTEP had four such awards in five years before Cross' tenure*.

    El Paso, Texas: Now The Safest Big City In The Nation

    For the first time the city of El Paso has been ranked as the safest big city in the United States. El Paso moved from No. 2 to No. 1 in the annual report by the CQ Press.. The ranking comes in the same year that El Paso was named an All-American City.
