UTEP Soccer Newsletter: Spring 2013

Training Time

With 11 straight seasons of at least 10 wins, it's obvious that something is going right with UTEP soccer.

While all of the focus for fans is in the fall, there's no denying the impact that the off-season training has.

Perhaps the biggest leap in terms of improvement comes in the spring exhibition season, with the Miners able to hone their skills against other high-level programs in the area. The games don't count and lineups often include outgoing seniors, but nonetheless they are a great opportunity to get better.

By the end of the spring schedule, UTEP will have played five exhibition training games. Road matches are against Arizona State (April 6), Arizona (April 7), West Texas A&M (April 13), Eastern New Mexico (April 14). The spring exhibition season comes to a close at home against New Mexico at 4 p.m. (April 20).

Cross Talk Returns

After taking a break for the offseason, fans of UTEP soccer should be excited that Cross Talk is back! Cross Talk is the top-ranked show about UTEP soccer, with host and head coach Kevin Cross joined by special guests.

The first episode of 2013 has been posted with defender/midfielder Alexis Alaniz joining Coach Cross.

Coming Soon... Summer Camps

Registration is underway for the popular Miner Soccer Academy summer camps which will be held in summer 2013. All camps are open to any and all entrants. While all of the camps will be a great time, UTEP soccer is thrilled to let fans know that the Soccer and Swim camp has returned after a two-year hiatus due to construction on the Student Fitness Center. Spots fill up quickly so be sure check out the schedule and sign up soon! You can also download the the official 2013 camp brochure.

2013 Schedule Released

The longest part of the year for any UTEP soccer season is the offseason. There is light at the end of the tunnel, though, and that light got a little brighter this week with the announcement of the 2013 schedule.

A little more than four months from now, soccer will be back at University Field. From four matches against 2012 NCAA Tournament teams to a revamped look to Conference USA, there is plenty to be excited about. Get the full scoop with the official schedule release.

Reinforcements On The Way

Coach Cross and his staff worked extremely hard on recruiting, and it resulted in the signing of 11 standout prep players to national letters of intent.

Ten were announced in February while Leonie Kijewski's recent official signing brought the class to completion at 11. Want to learn more about them? UTEP Earns NSCAA Team Academic Honor

While success on the pitch is important, it pales in comparison the significance of succeeding in the classroom. Once again UTEP had an exemplary academic performance and received the NSCAA Team Academic Award for having a team GPA of 3.12.

UTEP Garners National Recognition As A School

UTEP was just ranked among the best universities in the nation by Washington Monthly Magazine.

The ranking adds to UTEP's reputation for making a big difference in the lives of our students, the El Paso region and our nation.
